GUARCO-AID is a personal computer programme for the calculation of assembly and tightness parameters of bolted joints, as a function of their service conditions. Suitable for all gasket types, the programme allows for the choice between two calculation methods:
- GUARCO-AID ASME/EN
- GUARCO-AID PVRC.
GUARCO-AID ASME/EN
(gasket factors “y” (or “σVU/L” or “Qmin”) and “m/L”)
The program allows for the determination of the optimal assembly conditions of a joint, through the calculation of the following parameters:
- Actual values of the assembly bolt load and torque, according to
the characteristics of bolts and to the geometry of the gasket.
- Minimum values of such parameters, required to achieve the
tightness of the joint
- Maximum values of such parameters, in order to prevent the
crushing of the gasket
A gasket is mechanically suitable for the operating conditions if the actual value of the assembly bolt load (and torque) is within the range that is defined by minimum and maximum values. If such a condition does not occur, one should modify the characteristics of the joint or of the gasket. In this latter way the program can be used as an aid for gasket selection.
GUARCO-AID PVRC
(gasket factors "Gb, a, Gs")
A complete and effective program, is based on a procedure for flange design that was developed by the Pressure Vessel Research Council (PVRC) in North America.
In addiction to the features described for the GUARCO-AID ASME/EN program, GUARCO-AID PVRC program allows for:
- Calculation of expected leakage rate, as a function of
assembly and operating conditions.
- Introduction of the concept of required tightness level
of a joint, as an input for the calculation.
